It was so fun to be a part of David and Erica’s Firefighter wedding on New Years Eve!  What a party; they thought of every detail and we’re so glad that we were their choice of Toledo wedding photography! It truly was an honor!  And we love how they met- on match.com!  David forgot that he had auto renewal set up for his match.com account, so he logged in when he saw that he was billed again.  And there was beautiful Erica’s profile, who had just joined a few days earlier.  They connected and the rest is history!

David and Erica are an amazing couple: the moment you see them together, you know they were meant for each other!  And it was so obvious on their wedding day as they were getting ready.  The anticipation of seeing each other in only a few short hours was exciting and the time flew by!

With winter hours of limited sunlight, it was already dark outside after their ceremony.  We had planned ahead for some creative portraits, though!  David and his father are part of the downtown Toledo firefighter department, so we were thrilled to shoot at their fire station for them!

Erica, you owned this pose with your stunning beauty!

For their reception, David and Erica planned the entire reception to bring in the new year with their friends and family.  They even had a live stream of the ball drop in New York City going!

Stephen and Hailey are Engaged! | Toledo Botanical Gardens

Toledo Botanical Gardens

Stephen and Hailey are so cute together!  I could tell right away when we met that they are crazy in love with each other.  They first met through Hailey’s cousin, who married into Stephen’s family.  Stephen saw a picture on the wall at their home and asked who the beautiful blonde was.  They set up a bowling night so that Stephen and Hailey could meet, but Hailey wouldn’t talk to him at all!  Stephen, determined to win this girl’s heart, started talking to her on Facebook a few days later and eventually they went on a date ice skating at Tam-o-Shanter in Sylvania.  The rest is history!  We photographed their engagement session at the Toledo Botanical Gardens (and even snuck in a few portraits with their dog, even though they don’t allow pets there).

Toledo Botanical GardensIsn’t their little family cute?  We LOVE it when couples include their pets for their portraits!

Stephen proposed to Hailey 3 years after their first date.  He wanted it to be special and at the same spot as their first date, the Sylvania Tam-o-shanter.  He thought about proposing on the ice rink, but Hailey needs Stephen’s hand to balance herself on ice and he was afraid of letting go of her hand to get down on one knee.  So he proposed while he was down tying on her skates for her.  He opened up the ring box and she said, ‘yes!’.  We can’t wait until their wedding day next year!

Toledo Botanical Gardens Toledo Botanical GardensHailey, you are so gorgeous!  I can’t wait to see Stephen’s reaction when he sees you for the first time on your wedding day!

Lily’s senior pictures in downtown Toledo and Wildwood Park were so much fun!  This beautiful lady was so graceful in front of the camera that she could be a model!  When deciding on locations for her senior portraits, she loved having the option for 2 different settings: an urban downtown Toledo and a beautiful garden.  I’m not sure which setting is our favorite, because she perfectly fit both!  Congrats on your senior year in high school!  And thank you for choosing JH Photography for your Toledo senior pictures… we loved capturing this amazing time for you to always remember!

When Mike and Brianne were looking for the perfect wedding venue for their Toledo wedding, they fell in love with the Grand Plaza Hotel.  They could have their ceremony outdoors by the reflecting pond without their guests feeling like they were ‘downtown’, and some of the hotel’s decor matched their wedding colors!  We loved their red and Malibu blue color scheme, which looked amazing for their wedding photography!Toledo wedding photographyThe Grand Plaza and weather was perfect for their wedding day.grand plaza hotel downtown toledo weddingToledo wedding photographyToledo wedding photographyToledo wedding photographyToledo wedding photography

Brianne, of course, was a stunning bride!  With all the crazy planning that goes into a wedding, we asked her if there were any tips for future brides.  She says not to order programs according to your guest count, unless it’s a fan for outdoor ceremonies.  Most guests come as a couple and they ended up with 80+ extra programs!  Great tip!

Both Mike and Brianne said that one of their most treasured moments of the wedding day was having the live music and dancing.  Their band, “The Websters” from Cincinnati, were amazing and kept their dance floor full all night long!

Premier Catering Toledo Wedding

Michael and Clara’s Premier Catering Toledo wedding was full of love, tears of joy, and exquisite beauty.  Clara’s family traveled across the Pacific Ocean from Indonesia for their wedding day, and it was so much fun to learn about some of their cultural traditions for wishing a couple “good fortune”.  Clara’s suite, which was soon to be the honeymoon suite, was decorated with paper symbols for good luck.

Dustin & Casey Engaged!

Vintage Wedding Photographer

We just love this vintage theme-styled session from Dustin and Casey’s engagement shoot!  As their vintage wedding photographer we love new locations and Casey chose her parent’s restored farm house as the perfect spot.  Complete with turn-of-the-century furnishings (and car!), the theme was easy to be creative with!

Vintage Wedding Photographer in Toledo

How did you meet?

“Dustin and I first met at a coffee house called George House in Findlay, Ohio. The coffee house is right across from the University and it was early December so there were lots of students there studying for upcoming exams. I was sitting down drinking my coffee and there was nowhere to sit.  He came up to my table and asked to sit with me. I said ‘yes’ and we could not stop talking.”  A romance starting over a good cup of coffee!

The day before Dustin proposed to me he said he was going to take me out to our favorite steak house in Columbus called The Top. I was 100% sure he was going to propose so I went out and bought a new dress, shoes, got my hair done the whole 9 yards. I came home the night before and he said I looked nice but he wasn't sure why I was getting so "gussied up." He even went on to say he didn't want me to get my hopes up and that we were just celebrating that he had sold his house. Well I was disappointed needless to say. The 19th of December came around and we headed down to Columbus. It was cold and rainy but we hit the mall and much to my ever growing disappointment did very ordinary things. We went over to the steak house early and stayed in the car not wanting to go in to early. In the car we got into this conversation about engagement and how Christmas was coming up. That relatives were sure to be poking around once again asking where the ring was. I told Dustin that I would not let it bother me this year and I was ok with waiting a little longer if he needed more time to save up for the asscher diamond ring he wanted to buy me. We went in and I noticed that everyone was really nice to us. I didn't think anything of it since whenever we have gone down they have always been very kind. Then I noticed that Dustin was acting funny. I could hardly get him to talk and it was borderline awkward. I asked him if he was mad at me and he said no that he was just tired. After awhile I got up to use the restroom. When I came back there was a big tray of dessert sitting on our table. When I sat down Dustin jumped up and said I have to do to the bathroom! and ran off I thought "that's strange" I sat waiting for him to come back and was listening to the piano player. The Top was really crowded and he came back to the booth but moved to stand right beside me because I assumed he was letting a waiter by. But next thing I knew he was on one knee with a box. He said "Casey Marie, will you marry me?" He opened the box and it was glowing! I later found out that He and his son had installed the little light in it earlier in the week because The Top was dark and he wanted me to see the solitaire Asscher cut Diamond ring that he had picked out just two days earlier. I said yes and asked the piano player to play and sing "I only have eyes for you" by the Flamingos. Congratulations to you both!  We can’t wait until your vintage wedding next year!  And we just heard news that Dustin was hand-selected as the engineer for the Presidental Train later this year!  What an exciting adventure!

Scott and Katie = Engaged!

{Downtown Toledo Photographer}

Scott and Katie’s wedding is right around the corner!  Next month, they’ll be saying “I do” at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and hosting their reception at the lovely Central Park West.  We can’t wait!  As a downtown Toledo photographer, we were so excited when they chose an urban look for their engagement session.  Downtown Toledo offers so many unique portrait locations, and with our lighting and posing style, the urban look is amazing for a ‘love’ session!

A little snow didn’t keep us from venturing outdoors… but Scott and Katie were snuggling to keep warm!

I love to ask about the proposal!  And what a romantic one!  Scott had taken Katie to the beautiful Toledo Botanical Gardens for a date through the sculpted nursery.  They had been there a few years earlier together and had taken a picture together under the weeping willow, so Scott prompted them to take another picture of themselves while they were there.  As they walked out from underneath the tree, Scott knelt down on one knee and asked the love of his life to marry him.  And Katie said ‘yes’!
