Steve and Nikki’s Maternity Pictures {Toledo Photographer}

Steve and Nikki’s Maternity Pictures

{Toledo Photographer}

We are so happy for Steve and Nikki!  They are welcoming a new member to their family next month and wanted a maternity portrait session to capture this special time for them.  And, even more exciting is that they kept the gender of the baby a secret… even they don’t know!

Their maternity pictures were featured at Steve’s parents’ home in Michigan.  With it being near the end of winter, we were lucky to have both some beautiful snow and sunshine!  Congratulations to you both!

10 Extraordinary Locations for Your Indoor Toledo Photography Session

10 Extraordinary Locations for Your Indoor Toledo Photography Session

Brrrrr!  With such a LONG and miserably f-f-f-freezing winter, we have some amazing locations that we use for our Toledo photography sessions.  One of the setbacks with the Toledo area, is not only our long winters (Dec-April), but also the wind.  Maybe it’s part of the lake-effect, who knows?!  But, Toledo is seriously a wind-tunnel for wintertime!  Nobody wants freezing temperatures and wind-whipped hair for their portraits!  (Toes?  I can’t feel you!)  We have some favorite outdoor locations that we frequently use year-round, but one of the most popular questions from clients during the winter is, “Do you have any indoor locations to suggest?”  And, yes, we do!  We offer both indoor studio portraits and indoor locations all over Toledo.  Here’s a list of images from our top 10 locations in the Toledo area for indoor portraits!

Toledo Family Photography

Our studio offers a variety of backgrounds, floors, props, and walls to fit every client’s style!  Our Toledo photography studio is located just minutes from Botanical Gardens and Wildwood Metro Park, which makes it a great location for those wanting indoor AND outdoor portraits (even in the cold!).

One of our metallic walls in the studio.  I just love how the light reflects off the back and creates that urban look!  This wall is definitely a favorite with our  high school seniors!

One great indoor Toledo photography location is your own home-sweet-home!  Did you know that we offer in-home portrait sessions, too?  In-home sessions are perfect for little tots and newborns, because they always feel most comfortable in their own environment.   You bring the smiles and we’ll bring the studio lighting and props!  We do quite a few family and extended family sessions in-home, too!  And there’s no extra cost for the location, as long as you’re in the greater Toledo area.

One of our antique barn wood floors in the studio!  This is probably my favorite studio piece.  There’s also a matching barn wood wall and old door.

Another great location:  Our Toledo Photography Studio!   (again!)  🙂  Our studio is more than just 800+ square feet, we also have access to the entire building, which is a vintage 1920s structure!  There are so many hidden treasures inside and indoor locations to add variety to your portraits.  This old metal red door leads to an old broiler room in the basement.

Located in downtown Toledo, this spot is perfect for bridals and high school senior sessions!  Rain or shine, it’s a winning backup plan!

And last, but not least, a very unique indoor location in Toledo for an artistic high school senior or model!  This old auditorium is so retro that the original wooden seats, right down to the red stage curtains, hasn’t been updated since it was built in the early 1900s!  We bring our studio lighting in here for some creative spot lights and flare portraits that really spice up the poses!

What To Wear To Your Photo Session {Toledo Family Photographer}

What to Wear to Your Photo Session

{Toledo Family Photographer}

Sometimes the hardest part of a couple or family session is figuring out what your family should wear!  Your goal is to make your family look their best, and selecting outfits can be a little stressful!  Here are a few tips that I like to share with my Toledo families to help make their shopping easier for their family photography session.

Family Photography

1.  Coordinate colors; Just don’t be matchy-matchy!  Sure, the ‘exact’ shade and ‘exact’ hue of color for everyone’s shirt blends well, but in a portrait: it blends TOO well.  The best way to photograph your family is to have a little distinction for every individual, but not have one that is over powering in color or pattern.  It’s okay to mix and match colors and patterns… have a little fun!  Stay with 3 basic colors and play off the various hues.  Make sure at least more than one person has a matching basic color than yours, and you’ll be fine!

2.  Accessorize!  Yes, yes, YES!  Accessories are a must!  Bracelets, belts, headbands, cute shoes, fun hat for the boys to play around with…  Remember, we want your family to have fun and to show a little personality!  We’ll be taking some individual poses and sibling poses, too!

What to Wear

3.  Layers and textures.  Dress dad in a nice sports coat that he can take off to vary his outfits.  Give the boys a cute vest to wear, or the girls a light sweater or jacket.  We can mix and play it up during the shoot!  Toledo Family Photographer

4.  When you shop, the best advice is to shop from hardest to easiest!  Typically guys are more difficult to buy for, so start with your husband, and then the boys, and go from there.  It’ll help you from getting too overwhelmed and help you narrow down color schemes!

5.  Comfort is important!  You’ll want to be able to sit, stand, jump, lay, and twirl about in whatever you are wearing.  So you’ll want to be comfortable.  If they aren’t comfortable in what they are wearing… it will show on the portraits, especially when talking about kids.  No itchy shirts/tags or uncomfortable shoes!Toledo Family Photography 030_mini

6.  Let your personality shine!  Unless you are aiming for a highly stylized shoot, we really like for our families to show their personalities through their clothes.  If your little girl loves her cowgirl boots, bring them along!  Or dancing around in a tutu.  You’ll really appreciate the uniqueness 10-15 years from now when you look back!

7.  Send me a photograph of your outfits laid out over your bed in natural light.  Look to see if the colors look great together…  I LOVE to see families’ selections!

And remember to shop early!  You don’t want the stress of last minute trips to the mall.  And bring extra clothes for the little ones in case of messes.  (:  For more clothing and coordination ideas, check out our Clothing Pinterest Board!

Last, but not least, ENJOY your family session!  Think of it as a family date out!  It’ll be fun, unique, and you’ll treasure your portraits forever!

Mr. & Mrs. Stasa

Trying to get caught up on my blogging!  The rush of Christmas orders and last minute sessions are keeping me on my toes…not to mention trying to fit in all my Christmas shopping!  Here’s a post from one of my favorite indoor/outdoor venues…

Amy was absolutely stunning in her strapless wedding gown and the look in Nick’s eyes when he first saw her walk down the the Grotto at Nazareth Hall was priceless!  With the beautiful Hall’s backdrop and the bride’s attention to details, the wedding day was PERFECT!  Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Stasa!

Venue: Nazareth Hall of Grand Rapids, Ohio

Welcome Baby Jillian!

Nothing is sweeter than curled up sleepy poses of a newborn!  And this little baby girl was just that…and so precious!  She was actually more awake than not for her session, but we still captured some beautiful sleeping images.  And look at the happy new big sister in the family portrait!  What a helper she was!

Buckman Maternity

Seth and Stephanie are going to be new parents in just a few weeks!  How exciting!  I had the pleasure of watching these two get married a few years ago (they actually got engaged the same night my husband proposed to me!) and now they are about to welcome Baby Ava into the world!  I felt so blessed to be a part of this new chapter in their lives!  We started the session at Secor Park in Toledo, and then headed indoors at Stephanie’s parents’ home to finish up while it rained.  Here’s a few of my favorite images!
